This portrait of Ozzy Osbourne was painted just before Halloween and shortly after his induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I wanted to use rich, warm colors of fall, which mirror his vibrant personality and the intensity of his music. I felt a sense of symmetry between the season and his edgy, yet warm and endearing persona. As I worked to capture his expressions and style, the falling leaves also reminded me of all of his transformation over the years. I lost myself in painting the lines and creases in his face, visual marks of time and the struggles he’s overcome. Now as he is in this later phase of his life and living with Parkinson’s, I felt very nostalgic about his music and presence in our lives over the years.
